Bollards

What are Bollards?

Bollards are short, sturdy barriers that are installed in the ground to prevent vehicle traffic hitting pedestrians or buildings. They are typically posts, but can be any shape. They are normally made of metal or concrete.

Bollards can be used to protect walkways and structures, as well as helping direct traffic flow and access. If a vehicle leaves the roadway, bollards are designed to withstand the impact.

You will often see bollards in front of stores, surrounding busy walkways, and infront of critical infrastructure. While most bollards are permanent, some are removable, and some can be retracted to allow vehicles to pass as needed.
